Volunteers’ Stories

In 2013, we had three senior representatives from Merck for Mothers who volunteered with us for three months. They contributed to building an organisation strategy that has helped us grow in the last five years.

"I worked on a consulting project for an Oracle CSR initiative for a digital literacy campaign serving adolescent girls in Jharkhand. Some of my daily tasks included researching data on adolescent girls, creating district population profiles, consolidating data in infographics and developing curricula for social justice and gender equality workshops. Towards the end of the internship, I had the opportunity to go on a site visit to Ranchi, Jharkhand, to gather data through focus group discussions with adolescent girls. I also had the opportunity to meet with local government officials and and create partnerships with the local C3 office. The team I worked with was extremely meaningful in every initiative they delivered. Nothing was done in haste. For me, the most enjoyable part of the internship was simply being surrounded by such change makers -- strong women role models who are slowly but surely changing norms for Indian society. They also treated me as an equal and immediately welcomed me into their office culture. Additionally, they were always extremely supportive of my goals for the internship, and thus, they delegated work accordingly (suited to my academic interests)."
