Prioritization of access and availability of contraception for spacing pregnancies by low parity women and young people
Bihar is the third largest state in the country in terms of population (104,099,542) after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. The total fertility rate in the state (3.4)is the highest among all of the states of India and well above the national average (2.2) (NFHS 4). 15% of the country’s unmet need is contributed by Bihar. Bihar’s unmet need for family planning is 21% compared to the national 13%.
C3’s current initiative on Family Planning aims to work with influential voices in the public domain to visualise core issues of building the agency of young couples to access the comprehensive basket of choice for spacing, supporting women to exercise their right to reproductive choices and engaging men in Family Planning as supporters and champions of women’s equal participation in contraception and FP decision making.
