C3's Udaan stands as a model for Gujarat Council of Education Research and Training

C3, supported by UNESCO, organised a three-day visit of officials from the Gujarat Council of Education Research and Training (GCERT) to Jharkhand. This visit was to understand effectiveness and efficacy of our project Udaan in Jharkhand. For over 13 years, C3 has been providing technical assistance to the Government of Jharkhand in implementing the Adolescence Education Program in all districts of Jharkhand. This is a big honour for us that today the Government of Gujarat is looking at our model of Udaan for implementing the School Health Project in Gujarat under the Ayushman Bharat Initiative.

Udaan has gained wide acknowledgments nationally as well as internationally. The World Health Organisation, Geneva, has documented and disseminated Udaan internationally, as a first generation at-scale comprehensive adolescent health and education program from any country. It has also been acknowledged by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare as a successful and replicable model of in-school adolescent health and education program in the country.

During the visit, the team interacted with students and Nodal Teachers at secondary schools in Jamshedpur and Ranchi. They visited the residential Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalayas in Ranchi and Ramgarh districts of Jharkhand, to understand the implementation model in residential schools. The team also interacted with teaching faculties and students at B.Ed. College Hazaribagh, to understand how Udaan has been integrated within pre-service teachers’ training system. They also interacted with the leadership of Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Jharkhand and shared their experience and perspective of Udaan.
