In India, Institute of Reproductive Health, Georgetown and Centre for Catalzying Change, C3 (formerly CEDPA) have been providing technical assistance for fertility awareness-based methods (FAM) of family planning – specifically, SDM and LAM. Over the last 15 years, this work funded by USAID, has focused the work in the northern states of Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Technical assistance has been provided to NHM Jharkhand and health workers in all 24 districts have been trained in these methods as part of the CTUs. As we are in the final phase of FAM integration, C3 organised a dissemination meeting in Delhi on October 27, 2016 to share the results of the work and also to look at approaches of integrating sexual and reproductive education and fertility awareness into youth programming.
Dr. Ajay Khera, Deputy Commisioner (CH &AH), Minsitry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India was the chief guest at the event and spoke about Integrating Fertility Awareness in Policies, Programs and Priorities for Young People. Ms. Marietou Satin, Deputy Director, Health Office, USAID India was also present at the meeting and shared her thoughts on Investments in Fertility Awareness in India.
